Pay it Forward Friday with Kara Weaves

Last summer I had the pleasure of meeting Chitra Gopalakrishnan, one of the founders of Kara Weaves. Her company was established to give impetus to the struggling handloom industry in the state of Kerala, India, and to promote the cultural heritage of the traditional cotton fabric.  It was a fortuitous meeting, as I now find myself in their beautiful state inspired by the incredible sites surrounding the area.  kerala scene

Kara Weaves promotes the sustainable development of these weaving cooperatives.  Environmentally friendly handlooms reduce the negative impact on ecology and the environment.

The gossamer thin cotton threads produce a finely woven textile with a wonderful hand.

Chitra’s graphic design background is expanding the company’s color palate and design offerings with an ever growing collection of prints using environmentally friendly water based inks.

As a satisfied customer, I can attest to the quality of these towels.  Fantastic for travel and an active lifestyle, they dry quickly, are highly absorbent and take up very little space in the suitcase. Kara Weaves is a great addition to your frequent flyer program! A purchase supports the struggling handloom industry and traditional craft in a very sustainable way. Check out more of their offerings on their website here.

Thanks to Chitra for sharing the photos {all except the top}.
