Pay It Forward Friday with Best Buddies

Today, I am pleased to have Morgan Abbott guest posting for me. I hope you enjoy hearing from her!

Today, I am writing about a nonprofit organization that I have recently been blessed to work with. The organization is called Best Buddies International. I’m sure many of you have heard of it, but if not here you go! As I previously said, they are a non-profit organization committed to creating a national volunteer movement that offers one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This organization was founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, and started as one original chapter that has grown to over 1,500 chapters worldwide. There are many ways to get involved with the Best Buddies organization. The branch that I relate to has seven different programs that one can participate in. The programs are as follows: Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges, International, Citizens, E-Buddies, and Jobs. All of these programs pair up someone affiliated in the program with someone who has intellectual and developmental disabilities. If you find you have a very busy life, but still would like to get involved in this organization, I would recommend the E-Buddies program. E-buddies is a Best Buddies International program that works with improving computer and social skills, while developing friendships with the peer volunteers! A couple emails back and forth a week is really not too much to ask now is it?!
I have had a personal connection with this field for about five years now, and I am very passionate about continuing my involvement with Best Buddies and other organizations that have the same goal; to provide and advance great opportunities for those who in need. I strongly encourage you to check out some nonprofit organizations in your area and get involved! Every little bit counts!
Till next time,
Yours Truly
