Aruba-A Happy Eco Destination

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aruba Tourism Authority. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I heard that several of my friends had recently been to Aruba on different trips, the variety of the awesome experiences they had made me curious about visiting.  One is a comitted beach bum and raved about the wide windswept beaches with as much privacy as she liked.  Her husband was an adventure traveller and although I don't think he spent much time in a beach chair, the range of activites that kept him busy, everything from sailing a luxury catamaran to fishing, snorkling and kite surfing, I knew that there was no chance my husband would be bored.  The National park on the windward coast has great trails for hiking and the desert interior provides a striking contrast of landscape.

As It turns out, I found with a little research that this 70 square mile tropical paradise is on board to become one of the world's first sustainable energy economys.  Comitted to using 100% renewable energy by 2020, I knew this was a romantic getaway that needed further investigation.

At least 6 resorts on the island are certified by Earth Watch-the premier international certification orgainzation for sustainable travel tourism.  These getaway spots are socially responsible, focused on conservation, the environment and energy issues.  My choice would be Bucati & Tara, a gorgeous 14 acres on Eagle Beach that incorporates eco programs for the guests to participate in, and features some pretty chic furniture made from recycled plastic.

It's hard to argue with the moniker "One Happy Island". Cooling trade winds, perfect temperatures, turquoise waters and the best in fresh seafood from the Carribean waters, sounds like a little piece of heaven to me.  Aruba travel makes planning a breeze and If you have any hidden gems for me to discover, I'd love to hear about them in the comments.  With an important birthday approaching, it looks like an island getaway could be in my future!
