A Leaf Becomes Art in Spain
I have always been a lover of Paper-Cut Art, and when I first stumbled across the work of Spanish artist Lorenzo Duran, I thought it couldn’t possibly be real. I’ve seen intricate work up close and personal in China, India, Mexico and of course, the United States, but this was unlike anything I had ever seen. Can it possibly be authentic? Using a fragile leaf just seems so impossible.

Well, listen up readers, it is indeed not a Photoshop cutaway, but an amazing body of work by an artist with one very steady hand! After he carefully washes and dries his foliage, Lorenzo places a tissue tracing of his design on top. Using medical tools, he cuts away segments from his frond canvas and delights the visual senses with his creativity in nature. The techniques are similar to Spanish/Mexican picado or Chinese jianzhi. His pieces are available from his web site {and while many are already sold, he can reproduce something similar}. Leave a comment and i’ll be happy to pass it along to Lorenzo.
